My motivation to participate with Team LWB this year
I fell in love with Katie Rong Rong at the Great Wall of China. It was her radiant smile and tinkling laughter which captured my heart. Katie had been given up for adoption at age 2. My friends, Karen and Doug Yingling were spiritually directed to adopt Katie from a Project Hope list about 18 months ago. In Jan 2010, I accompanied Karen and her 3 year old daughter, Becky to Beijing to welcome Katie into the loving embrace of the Yingling family. In December of 2011, the Yingling's added another China daughter to their growing family. Through the Yingling's, I have met many families who have adopted children with special needs from China. What is amazing is that there are so many more of these precious children still waiting in China for families. So many of these children wait for surgeries. And walking in the LA Marathon is a way I can help them. I want to be part of reaching out and changing the life/lives of orphaned children needing medical help and I will do this by walking the LA Marathon with other LWB walkers/runners.
