Kevin Allen

Welcome to my website

I have been married to Michele for 15 years and have two children, Blake(14)and Shannon(6). I have worked for The Richard Norman Company, a direct-response marketing agency, located in Lansdowne, Virginia, for 14 years.

Michele and I had the privilege of adopting Shannon, our daughter, from Guangdong, China in 2004. Shannon lived in an orphanage for eight months before we adopted her.

Several years ago I started running to lose weight and have continued to run to maintain my weight. I ran a couple of 5Ks in 2007 and two 10Ks in the spring of 2009 but have never run anything close to a marathon before. My goals are to raise $100 for every mile for a total $2,620 for Love Without Boundaries and finish the Marine Corp Marathon by running the whole distance.

UPDATE:Cambree has just had her surgery and is doing well. Thanks to the support of so many family and friends who have already donated, we have met the revised goal of $200 per mile which totals $5,240. LWB will certainly put any additional donations to good use. Please feel free to email me at kevinballen@cox.net if you have any questions about LWB.

RACE UPDATE: I ended up running 1,099 miles in training including 7 runs of 20 miles and on 9/27 ran a 10K race in 46:18 which is 2:50 faster than my previous best. You can go to www.marinemarathon.com to check for updates on my progress during the marathon on Sunday or for final results after the race is over. My bib number is 33151. Thank you for all the support and encouragement you have given me.

My motivation to participate with Team LWB this year

Michele and I have supported Love Without Boundaries (LWB) for many years. We appreciate LWB helping orphans, both those awaiting adoption and those who will never be adopted, because we see our daughter in each of them.  LWB helps the orphans in China in a wide variety of ways including life-saving and life-altering surgeries, education programs including their Believe in Me Schools which help many children, including some with special needs, and orphanage assistance programs, to name a few of their many projects.  You can get more information about all of LWB wonderful efforts at their website www.lovewithoutboundaries.com.

This opportunity to help LWB’s excellent work in China and to stay in shape seemed like a perfect match. I hope you will join me in supporting Love Without Boundaries today to help reach my goal of raising $5,240.  You can donate online to this effort by clicking the link “Sponsor Kevin” above or by mailing your check to:

Please remember to include “Marine Corp Marathon 2009 – Kevin Allen” in the memo field of the check.

Thank you for your support.

I'm participating on behalf of Cambree. Cambree was born in March 2009. She arrived at the Anhui Cleft Healing Home from Dingyuan in May at 5 weeks of age. She is very tiny and weak and has a bilateral cleft lip and palate, which makes it very difficult for her to drink her formula. She is a beautiful child with a sweet smile. She will receive the one-one-one care that she needs at ACHH to be able to have surgery to receive a brand new smile.
