Courtney & Taylor Harris

Welcome to my website

Taylor and I both went to Robinson High School in Virginia, but did not know each other. It was not until college that we became connected (okay yes, through Facebook). We "friended" each other, spoke for several hours on the phone and soon met. We have been together ever since! It has not been easy since we were a long-distance couple while we were dating, and even into the first year of our marriage. We had many phone dates, sent each other letters, and played "Battleship" over Skype together. Although it was about 5 years that we were apart, now we are together! We are both in Virginia Beach. I am still looking for a job while I apply to medical school and Taylor is teaching at the Ground Intelligence Course. Apart from training for the marathon Taylor plays on adult lacrosse and hockey teams, and I am scrapbooking and reading (giving my mind a break after my Master's program for a little while :) ). Plus, living near a beach has been nice in the summer time! Thank you very much for supporting Taylor and I for this marathon! We are excited to be running it together, while also raising money for LWB.

My motivation to participate with Team LWB this year

Taylor was the one who came up with the desire to run a marathon together. He wanted us to do something significant together, something that was a challenge for us to accomplish. Something we would have to work toward achieving together. Naturally, the Marine Corps Marathon was our top pick. When we knew we wanted to run a marathon, I could think of no greater cause than LWB. Although we do not have personal experience with the organization, I have through my good friend Caitlin and her family. I remember being at the beach with the Glass' in the Outer Banks when they brought Kevin home. It was then that I learned what it is to truly open your home to another, and to give that "extra" love you have. Since I am obviously medically-minded, the fact that Kevin had medical need touched a spot in my heart as well. Throughout the last several years I have learned more about LWB through the Glass' and could not be more proud to support this organization!

I'm participating on behalf of Siobhan. Siobhan (pronounced "Shove-on") was born with a bilateral cleft lip and palate and currently lives in LWB’s Henan Cleft Healing Home. In addition to her difficulties eating with her cleft lip and palate, she also has poor digestion and struggles to gain weight. LWB continues to have her reviewed medically to find an answer to her slow weight gain. LWB will provide surgery once she is a healthy weight and then care for her until she is fully healed.
