Welcome to my website

I am excited to be running with Love Without Boundaries for a second time this fall. I am a special education teacher of students with multiple and severe disabilities, many of whom have serious medical conditions like the orphans LWB serves. I was introduced to LWB through the Glass family, who have adopted four children from China. Their work for LWB and the love they show all of their children continually inspires me to run with this team. This will be my third Marine Corps Marathon, and I’m excited to be at the tail-end of training! UPDATE (9.17.10): Thanks to all of you who have donated so far, I greatly appreciate it! Training in Colorado was hard but absolutely gorgeous. The downside of every run was that half of it (up to 9 miles) was straight uphill, the upsides were the other halves of the runs down and the breathtaking scenery. I was able to get my long runs up to 18 miles there, and since being home have reached 20, with 22 in just a week. That will likely be my longest training run. I've been seeing a sports nutritionist and it has been helping my energy level so much! Hopefully there will be some reflection in my times, if not, oh well. I've just been glad to be able to keep my motivation and energy to get up early to run before 12 hour workdays in CO and now getting up at 5 and getting miles in before school. I've added in some new cross-training fun, too, starting to swim once a week. Triathlon prep work? Perhaps... :) UPDATE 10.11.10- The marathon's only 20 days away! Many of you runners know that this means one glorious thing... it's taper time. I'm excited to be decreasing my mileage over the next 3 weeks to be rested for the big day. I completed a 23 mile run with my friend Katie, who I'll be racing with, on Saturday and we were able to do it in 4:27. This means breaking a 5 hour marathon is now an official goal for us. We'll see. Nutrition and cross training are definitely paying off, as well as lots of stretch

I'm participating on behalf of Hannah. Hannah is being cared for in LWB’s Heartbridge Healing Unit. Her orphanage was having a very hard time getting her to gain weight, due to a really difficult combination of special needs: she has a VSD (hole in her heart), her heart is on the right side of her chest cavity, and Pierre Robin Syndrome causes her to have an underdeveloped lower jaw, small mouth, cleft lip and no tongue. Hannah was born in January and will need to gain weight before it is safe for her to have heart surgery. She is an incredibly fragile, but very tough, little girl.
